Iiiii do not blame you if you did not read all of that.
Here's the condensed version! ZUKO MINI THEATER!
Book 1: AAAAAANGST, MUST REGAIN HONOR, MUST CAPTURE AVATAR. DDD<
Book 2: INNER STRUGGLEEEE
Book 3: GOOD GUY NOW! WOOBY UNCLE HUGS, HELPING THE AVATAR TAKE DOWN FIRELORD. YEAAAAH. >DDD
Personality: You wanna talk about an angsty teenager? Zuko would take the cake. Especially in the start of the series. Being the Crowned Prince of the Fire Nation and being banished and scarred by one's father has a habit of making what we literary folks like to call the tragic villain! Indeed, Zuko spend the first book of the Avatar series as a villain, constantly chasing after the Avatar and Company. Really, Zuko had forced himself to believe that delivering the Avatar to his father back in the Fire Nation would completely restore his honor. And honor is something he prattles on and on and on about. This, for the longest time, was Zuko's sole motivation in life: earning the love and respect of his father. Uuuuunfortunately, this is not the case. Zuko's father, Fire Lord Ozai, is a cruel man, with less than desirable parental methods.
Zuko's motivation has since changed, but.. I'll get to that later!
Back to chasing Aang. The Avatar he's so concerned with catching.
Zuko, throughout this part in the series.. well, he's a complicated ball of contradicting angst. In fact... One might say that Zuko has a rather sizable case of... AANGst.I'm not sorry at all for using that horrible pun. Zuko's comes off as ruthless and strict, though I believe this happens due to his royal background. Even though he acts this way, he doesn't ever seem to want to hurt anyone. Especially if there's nothing to gain while doing it. This is quite contradictory to most of his nation. In fact, the reason he got that scar across his face is because he spoke out against sacrificing a fleet of able-bodied soldiers. There are even times throughout the series that Zuko opts to save people at the sacrifice of capturing the Avatar.
He's a very motivated and determined young man. Once he puts his mind to something, he'll stop at nothing to obtain it. That much alone is clear from his time chasing Aang. Coupled with the zeal and drive to get this objective done, Zuko's very trustworthy when it comes to execution of these tasks. Remember how I said I'd come back to what motivates Zuko and why that makes him stand out so much among the other Fire Nation royalty who are driven by political advancement? Well, here it is: Zuko is motivated by perseverance and hard work. I think we can thank Iroh for instilling this belief in Zuko, the little bugger. Though he can be hard on himself if he fails. :| Oops.
As admirable as that last trait is... Zuko has his share of teenage problems too. First off, he can be hot-headed and brash. This ends up causing him to make mistakes, which only frustrates him further. He can even end up acting before thinking--especially when startled. This is significantly lessened once he joins Aang and co., but still a possibility. He may be prone to minute tempter tantrums (Even with his current canon point--like when he tries to teach Aang firebending and ends up not being able to produce.) On top of all that, he can be one of the most awkward turtles ever. Let's face it, Zuko's never been on top of the Fire Nation Social Interaction list.
Zuko is also clever, agile, and quick. This comes from his fighting skill and tactical prowess from war meetings, Agni Kai fights, or just general life lessons. Because of this, he's also a hard teacher. Sorry Aang, there's no fun to be had when learning firebending. Part of this is due to the loyalty he feels to his true destiny, which he believes with all his heart is teaching the Avatar firebending. Zuko finally did what his uncle said, find his own destiny. He finally learned he needs to do what's right and earn his own honor; that his father couldn't restore it for him.
Iroh gets a special little section of this app, because this Wooby Emo Prince treasures the bond they have. He views Iroh like a father--more than his ever was to begin with. Therefore, they are quite close. Iroh's always been a guide for Zuko, and because of his efforts, the Prince grew up from a 14 year old obsessed with earning his father's love to a respectable, independent man. And nothing's better than wooby reuniting hugs between these two.
Game Specific:
Arcana: The Magician
Justification: I chose the Magician for more than a few reasons... Zuko has always been very resourceful, and has always had the ambition to take everything head on. Especially once he makes up his mind about what's right and what he needs to do. Firebending demands confidence and respect, not to mention an amazing strength of will. If you don't have iron will, you can lose control of the flames.
That's not all. Even the negative side fits Zuko. Throughout the series, he's had trouble placing his trust in people he shouldn't have. (AKA his Father and Azula.) ... He can also be immature and throw little temper tantrums. It happens sometimes, okay.
Samples:
First Person Sample:
[He remembered a few things. He remembered being at the Summer Home. He remembered falling asleep. He remembered hearing the word 'Persona'. And the next thing he knew, he was here. ... where ever this was...]
[Persona, huh? Well, Zuko had no idea what that word meant, not to mention the significance it would have on his life starting now... but frankly.. he didn't give a damn! He was busy. You know. Saving the world from his crazy father!]
[So thanks for interrupting that. No really. He appreciates it.]
[Ah, but back to the point. Here's Zuko, leaning up against a wall with his arms crossed. A look of great contemplation crosses those boyish features. No one would tell him anything. Only that he was here now. Lotta good that did.]
... I just need to breathe. Think... There's gotta be a way out of here. [A pause.] Worst case scenario, I'll blast my way through... [He had firebending, so there was at least that! Right?]
[It wouldn't be until Zuko actually attempted to firebend that.. well.. he would realize he did not have his one and only weapon. It would send him into a panic mode. Punches and kicks would be thrown every which way, every one an attempt at creating fire, the energy of the world. All would fail him.]
WHAT. IS. THIS. [Finally, he seemed to slow down, breathing heavy from the vigorous workout.] Why is life so against me?! I finally find the right path, and now I'm stuck somewhere with no bending?! GREAT.
[Jeez, Zuko, throw more of a tantrum.]
Third Person Sample:
Y'know what the most awesome awkward situation to throw an emotastic Prince in? PUBLIC SCHOOL. That's right. Upon coming to Prospero, Zuko had gone through a lot. But never high school. The concept was, needless to say, completely different than anything he'd experienced. Anything he needed to know, he was taught at home, or through harsh examples. ... For example... His face.
Really, he didn't get it. As far as anyone in the Fire Nation was ever concerned, he was educated enough to be considered an adult for the most part! Who needed all this ridiculous information! Who cares about mathematics, history of a place he'd never been, and he spoke language just fine thank you.
"I still don't get why I have to do this," he murmured grumpily, crossing his arms. He probably stuck out like a sore thumb! Weird burn scar across his face, weird clothes, sour attitude--that one couldn't be helped! He'd never been around so many people his own age. And it was awkward okay.
Eventually he would be called up to the front to introduce himself. So awkwardly, he stepped to the front, trying to muster up his ... not so grumpy look. "Uh.. Hi. I'm Zuko... I'm from the Fire Nation. .. Actually, I'm the crowned prince of the Fire Nation... But that's not really important right now. .. I guess I just came here... Well.. Obviously, I just came here, but it wasn't by choice!" ZUKO, YOU'RE RANTING, AND THIS IS UNIMPORTANT. "Anyway.. I guess that's all."
It was deeeefinitely going to be a looooooong year.
